WELDON TOLBERT

Feb 21, 1932 - Nov 26, 2013 MUSTANG Weldon Tolbert, age 81, beloved father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at his home in Mustang, Oklahoma. He was born February 21, 1932, in Everton, Missouri. He was the youngest of three sons born to Amos Tolbert and Mabel (Owens) Tolbert. Weldon grew up on a farm in southwest Missouri and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1950. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. While in the service, Weldon married Geraldine Hudson, the love of his life, on November 16, 1951. After he was discharged in 1954, he and Gerry made their home in Oklahoma City, where they raised their three children, David, Karen, and Mike. Weldon worked 11 years at Oklahoma Gas & Electric before becoming a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in 1965. He retired after 30 years, having spent most of those at Oklahoma City's Northwest Station. He enjoyed coaching his sons in baseball and quail hunting. After retirement, he became an avid golfer. He was a fan of college football, Thunder basketball and sprint car racing. His life will be forever celebrated by his family. He will be greatly missed by his regular coffee drinking friends, his golfing friends, cherished neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Mabel Tolbert; his wife, Gerry, in 1999; son, David, in 1994; son-in-law, Kevin, in 2006; and two brothers, Cleo and Nelson Tolbert. He is survived by daughter, Karen Leis, of OKC; son, Mike Tolbert and wife Teri, of Tuttle; daughter-in-law, Margie Tolbert, of Blanchard; grandchildren, Sean Tolbert, Katie Tolbert, Amy Leis, and Sarah Leis; great-grandson, Kevin Coyne; sister-in-law, June Tolbert, of Springfield, MO; brother-in-law, Dennis Hudson, of OKC; nieces and nephews and their families: Judy and Bob Beam, of OKC; Carol and Stan Martin, of Springfield, MO; and Jerry and Norma Tolbert, of Stratford, MO; close friend and golfing buddy, Jim Garrett; and a host of other relatives and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013, 2 p.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.
