James Moore Obituary

James Richard Moore passed away at home on 9 December, 2010. Jim was born 14 August 1939 in Kansas City, MO, to James Hoover Moore and Helen Clara Lillian Schwartz. He grew up in Kansas City. He was involved in the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout; he was especially proud that he was privileged to attend the Boy Scout World Jamboree in 1955 at Philmont Scout Ranch. He graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, MO in 1957. Jim attended Kansas State University, where he met Susie (Sarah Frances) Robohn. They were married 21 August 1963 in Manhattan, KS. He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture in May of 1964 and moved the day after graduation to Oklahoma City at the height of urban renewal. He established and managed his own firm, James R. Moore Architects and Planners for 18 years. He was an Adjunct Instructor at Oklahoma State Technical Institute from 1974 to 1978. Jim was an innovator that brought unique solutions to routine and chronic operations and was known for his attention to details, especially related to healthcare and research facilities. His scope of work ranged from churches, residences, schools, industrial and recreational facilities, animal and biomedical research labs. He was involved in planning and execution of projects for OU Health Sciences Center, OSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Lab, Presbyterian Hospital Center for Healthy Living, Research Park and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Jim retired in 2009 from Miles and Associates. Jim was actively involved in the Oklahoma City and state Jaycees, the Red Lands Council of Girl Scouts, Taft Stadium Board, OKC Chamber of Commerce and Tomorrow's Edmond project. He was instrumental in bringing youth soccer to OKC public schools and was an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity. He and Sue were involved in marriage preparation and family life enrichment programs since 1974, including serving as chair couple for Marriage Encounter. He enjoyed wood working, family genealogy, stamp collecting and landscaping. Being insatiably curious, he had a lifelong interest in the sciences, especially related to the exploration of space. Jim and Sue traveled the world the past few years and enjoyed many sights. Jim is survived by his wife, Sue, of Edmond; daughter, Karen and husband Wesley Bledsoe of The Colony, TX; son, David Moore of Leavenworth, KS; daughter, Michaela and husband Ken Groth of Jenks, OK. He has 6 grandchildren: Alan, Sara and Rachel Bledsoe of The Colony; Cayton Moore of Norman; and Ryan and Michael Groth of Jenks. Services to be held on 20 December 2010, 3pm, at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond OK. Memorial donations may be made to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, 3355 S. Purdue, P.O. Box 270968, Okla. City, OK 73137-0968; or Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, 1025 N. Broadway Ave., Okla. City, OK 73102.

Hi Sue-
Words are not enough to overcome our sorrow for Jim's passing. But he will always be remembered as your life's partner, as well as an honorable man & a very good father. Most of us would be happy to have that level of recognition. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
