October 7, 1958 - May 15, 2012 MIDWEST CITY Brenda Jean Potter was born October 7, 1958 in Faulkton, South Dakota to Carl K. Olesen and Irene Mable Byrd Olesen and passed from this life May 15 in Oklahoma City at the age of 53. Brenda spent her earliest years on the family farm in South Dakota. When she was only thirteen years old her father passed away. Shortly afterwards they sold the farm and moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to be near Irene's family. While there she attended Broken Arrow High School. In January, 1976 she was married to Jimmy Potter. They soon relocated to Wewoka for a short time before moving to the Oklahoma City area. There she received training as a nurse's aide and worked at various hospitals and nursing facilities. Brenda and her husband later started their own business, Jim's Appliance Repair. They operated this business some twenty years before pursuing other interests. Brenda then took classes at Oklahoma State University/Oklahoma City for training in child care services. She dearly loved caring for children and worked at it until ill health restricted her activities. Brenda loved people and enjoyed the relationships she had with her friends and family. She was of the Catholic faith and considered the church in Holdenville her home. In addition to her father she was also preceded in death by her mother in 1992, a sister Sue Kiehn in 2001, two aunts Ima and Alma, and three uncles Paul, Marvin, and James Guy, Jr. Survivors include her husband Jimmy of the home; 3 children, Carla Merritt and husband Jason of Moore, Stefanie Renae Powell and husband Ryan of Oklahoma City, and a son Bryce Allen Potter of the home; 2 grandchildren Tyler and Heather Irene; 2 nieces Connie and Debbie; 2 nephews Mike and Calvin; along with several cousins, other relatives, and many friends. Memorial service will be held May 22, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home Chapel, Wetumka, OK.
