February 23, 1928 - July 28, 2013 NORMAN Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth Kretz Plankey, 85, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on July 28, 2013. Dorothy was born in New Haven, Connecticut on February 23, 1928 to the late William H. and Dorothy C. Kretz. She was married to the late Francis T. Plankey for 25 years. Dorothy was one of the first women from Connecticut to serve from 1950-1953 in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. As well as being a homemaker, Dorothy worked as an accounting clerk for Worth's Company in Waterbury, CT for 12 years. While residing in Oklahoma, since 1991, she worked for many years for the National Indian Council on Aging.Dorothy is survived by her five children, Dr. Michael W. Plankey, Washington, DC, Kathy A. Coolahan, Oklahoma City, OK, Christine F. Carpenter and her husband Philip W. Carpenter, Bristol, CT, Paul F. Plankey and his wife Sandy Plankey, Waterbury, CT, and Karen L. Morrone and her husband Matthew J. Morrone, Prospect, CT; and seven grandchildren, Christopher J. Coolahan, USN, Kyle P. Coolahan, Oklahoma City, OK, Cole P. Carpenter and Kira M. Carpenter, Bristol, CT, Joseph Falis and Freddie Falis, Tulsa, OK and Krista M. Morrone, Terryville, CT; as well as other friends. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Kretz and William Kretz, Jr.The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Chapel in the St. Joseph's Parish Family Life Center in Norman, OK with Father Dan LeToureau officiating. A military burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Funeral arrangements are being arranged by Advantage Funeral Home, Oklahoma City. The family would like to thank the nurses, administrative staff and caregivers from the Norman VA Center and Valir Hospice.
