Oct 4, 1925 - Dec 28, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Frank was the first of four boys born to Pedro and Sadie Leano in San Pedro, California. He joined the Merchant Marines at the beginning of WWII. At the age of 16, he had sailed around the world working on Merchant ships. In 1944, at age 18, he joined the U.S Navy serving the South Pacific aboard the USS Kitson ship. His job was piloting a Higgins boat landing troops onto the beaches in the Philippines. After his discharge from the Navy, he borrowed ninety dollars from his dad to attend an aircraft mechanics school, beginning a forty-three-year career in the aviation industry. He started his own business, Frank's Aero Service, in Los Angeles and later worked for the Los Angeles International Airport before being hired by the Federal Aviation Administration as an aviation safety inspector in San Diego, CA. In 1984, he transferred to Oklahoma City and was an aviation safety instructor at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, retiring in 1990. After his retirement, he worked for the International Civil Aviation Organization on assignments in Argentina and Venezuela. He is survived by his wife, June; and stepchildren and their spouses, Jamie and Ed Mayes, Kelly and Clyde McLendon, Keith and Shawndy Young, and Rick and Deanna Young. Frank was preceded in death by his son, Frank Jr.; his parents, Pedro and Sadie Leano; and his three brothers, Gil, Richard, and Rudy Leano. Frank was a Mason and a member of India Shrine, Greeters Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the India Shrine Transportation Fund at 3601 NW 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73112. Memorial services will be Monday, December 31, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Lynlee Mae Chapel, 501 E. Main, Moore, OK.
