Harris Kennedy December 1935 - March 25, 2012 VERO BEACH, FL Gilbert Rothwell Harris Kennedy, 76, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday March 25, 2012, from complications associated with pneumonia. He was born in St. Louis Missouri, December 1935, to the late Gilbert R. and Elizabeth D.H. Kennedy. Gil, as he was known to many, graduated from The Kent School in 1953, from where he then attended Stanford University and then graduating from Yale University in 1957. At Yale he excelled at academics and athletics as a member of Yale University Crew Team, including alternate for the 1956 gold medal Olympic Crew team, as well as a Rhodes Scholar finalist and graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He then went on to receive Post graduate degrees in Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, graduating at the top of his class, and then going on to receive a law degree from Yale University, and later a Master's of Health Care Law from University of Houston, TX. He was married in Norman, Oklahoma to Caroline McDermott for 44 years until her death in 2002. They lived together in NYC, NY, Edmond, Oklahoma, Houston, TX, and Florida. He is survived by daughter Blain Kennedy and son Gilbert Kennedy, and siblings Ellen Kennedy and John Kennedy, and four loving grandchildren. He started his working career at Morgan Stanley in New York City and moved on to numerous other venture capital endeavors in the medical, computing and most notably petroleom industry founding Plains Resources. In his later years he was chiefly concerned with environmental issues and sustainable aquaculture farming. But if you were to ask him his most proud working achievement lay in his not for profit marine ecological work protecting the Indian River Lagoon for which he received an award in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, watching sporting events, and spending time with his grandchildren, talking politics, and devouring science fiction libraries. Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to: Marine Resource Council, 3275 Dixie Highway Northeast, Palm Bay, FL 32905. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach. Online condolences may be sent through www.coxgiffordseawinds.com www.coxgiffordseawinds.com
