"JD/Soup" WalkerFeb 15, 1936 - Nov 15, 2012 MIDWEST CITY John Douglas Walker, 76, of Midwest City, OK, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Mercy hospital, Oklahoma City, OK. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his brothers, George (aka Timothy Hagemann), and Huston Walker; sisters, Sue Myers, Sylvia Asher, and Elvira Kilgore; granddaughter, Katy Walker; and parents, Burtis Walker & Elizabeth Begley.Survivors include his wife, Linda S. Walker, of Midwest City, OK; three sons: John Walker, of Annandale, VA; Steven Walker, of Tulsa, OK; and Kurt Walker, of McKinney, TX; stepchildren: Damon Parker, of Las Vegas, NV; Annessa Parker, of Midwest City, OK; Jason Lum, of Midwest City, OK; three brothers: Chester, Roger (aka Donald Ray Bowman) and Frank Walker; a sister, Elizabeth Albin; and six grandchildren, Paige, Molly, Carter, Preston, Darby and Ava. Mr. Walker was born February 15, 1936, in Allais, KY to Elizabeth and Burtis Walker. Mr. Walker enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1977, after more than 21 years active duty. An early pioneer in the automation of messaging systems while in the Air Force, Mr. Walker served as a Communications Specialist in various assignments and duty stations, both in the U.S. and overseas. Following his successful military career, Mr. Walker worked as a civil servant for the Defense Department and Bureau of Public Debt, Department of the Treasury. Mr. Walker was a Master Mason, a member of the Southern Baptist denomination, and an avid outdoorsman. He was loved and respected by his many siblings, children, grandchildren and friends; and though he lived a long and active life, he will be greatly missed.Viewing and Services will be held on Monday morning, November 19 at Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd., Midwest City, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by interment, with Military and Masonic Honors, at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Oklahoma City.In lieu of gifts or flowers, the Walker family requests donations in memory to Forever Yours Dog Rescue Inc, 15208 Megan Cir, Oklahoma City, OK 73170.
