Oct 29, 1924 - May 2, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Lyndon "Lynn" Birdwell was born October 29, 1924, in Royse City, TX to Clive and Doshia Birdwell. He was raised in a farming community in SW Oklahoma. His early schooling was in Hollis, OK, and he graduated from Ron High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps after high school and served as a B-25 pilot, 1st Lt., in the 390th Bomb Squadron in the Pacific Theater. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves until 1955 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. After WWII ended, he attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1951 with a major in Industrial Engineering. He met his wife, Wilma Walter, while he was working as a safety engineer for an insurance company in Midland, TX. They were married on May 4, 1952, in Lubbock, TX. Lynn and Wilma started their family, and he continued to work as a safety engineer in Wichita Falls, TX and OKC. He started his own insurance agency in 1962 and later joined Insurance Agents, Inc., where he worked until he retired in 2009. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma; his son, Dale and daughter-in-law Wanda of Edmond; his sister, Mary and husband Neil of Rowlett, TX; a brother, Jerry and wife Carroll of Ft. Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Birdwell; brothers, Willard and Harold Birdwell; and sister, Gladys Abernathy. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Lynn will be greatly missed by his family, many relatives, business associates and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 7 at 1 p.m. at Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel.
