Louis Kindrick Obituary

March 11, 1929 - July 29, 2011 MOORE Louis Gyle Kindrick, of Moore, OK, died July 29, 2011. He was born March, 11, 1929 in Elgin, OK. He was the youngest of 8 children born to Claude Jennings and Rachel Annie (Ward) Kindrick. He spent his early years on the family farm before his parents moved to South OKC. He attended Columbus grade school and Capitol Hill Junior and Senior High Schools. After graduation he moved to Houston, TX to marry his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Dolores Moody. While in TX he became a sheet metal worker. After the birth of their fourth Texan, Louis moved his family back to OKC. He continued in sheet metal and became a contractor. He also served as President of the OK Sheet Metal Contractors Association. In 1964 he and the family moved to Moore, and in 1980 he was elected Mayor. Louis was the first Mayor of Moore to be elected 3 terms. After he retired, he and Dolores spent many years traveling, working summers and the Grand Canyon and spending winters in South TX. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, exploring, building, planting gardens, telling tales and eating weird stuff! He was a member of Oakcrest Church of Christ in OKC. He was also a member of the Choctaw Nation. Louis' "heaven on earth" was the cabin he built, by hand, in Colorado, for his family. Louis is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children, Mike and Terri of Norman, Janet and Jerry Newville of Norman, Tina Bearden of Moore, and Kelly and Terri of OKC; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Beth Harris of OKC; and his sister, Opal RoBards of OKC; and many, many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and dear friends. Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Vernon and Peggy Moody; his son-in-law, Doyle Campbell; 3 brothers, Vernon, Arvard, and Vic; and 2 sisters, Oneta Cox and Lucille Duncan. There was nothing more important to him than his family, and the love he had for them knew no limits. TRULY A LIFE WELL SPENT. The family would like to thank the nurses who took such good care of Louis and for the kindness that was shown to them during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to Creede Church of Christ, PO Box 147, Creede, CO 81130, or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held 2-4 PM, Sunday, July 31, 2011, at John M. Ireland Funeral Home Chapel, Moore, OK. Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, August 1, 2011, at Oakcrest Church of Christ, 1111 SW 89th, Oklahoma City, OK. Arrangements were made under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, OK.

Louis made the world a better place by walking among us. He was a natural born leader who I had the honor to serve. He lived a great life and led always by example. I learned a great deal from Louis and especially in the manner in which he loved his family and loved and adored Dolores. I love Louis and I am so grateful that I knew him well.

"My Daddy", how can our family continue how can we survive how can we thrive? We can do it because we had you to show us that God and family are and always will be our sources of strength. The example you set for us goes far beyond our family and the lives that you influenced will continue for generations. When Doyle died you told me it was alright to feel relived
and that wanting his suffering to be over was "selfless not selfish". Daddy we are all being selfless right now, but we all "miss your bright eyes and sweet smile"!
Love forever, "Your Janet"

Off and on we had some interesting travels with family and lively debates (that I secretly enjoyed). Happy trails, Mr. Kindrick.
