August 11, 1927 - January 2, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY Margaret Nadean Pittman Jones, loving wife, mother and friend, went home to the arms of her Savior on January 2, 2013. She was born in El Reno, Oklahoma to Lee Roy and Nellie Margaret Pittman on August 11, 1927. She spent her early life in Bethany where she attended Bethany Public Schools. She then went to Oklahoma City University, graduating with a B.A. degree in Music. While there, she was campus sweetheart, beauty queen, president of her sorority, Alpha Omega (now Delta Zeta) and tapped for Cardinal Key, a national honorary sorority for leadership, character and scholastic ability. Nadean also met the love of her life at OCU, William Haywood Jones. Their first date was a formal sorority dance. They married in 1946 and literally danced (ballroom, square and round dancing) their way through life. Before her daughters were born, she was head of the Policy Department at Republic Life Insurance, administrative assistant at Trojan Construction and administrative assistant to the manager of engineering at General Electric in New York. While raising her daughters, she served as president of Les Bon Livres Book Club and Delta Zeta delegate to Oklahoma City Panhellenic. In the 1970's and 1980's, she worked as placement director for OCU and office manager for Foodpro in California. She loved each job from New York to California and kept in touch with friends from coast to coast. Nadean loved to travel and planned a family vacation each summer to show the girls another part of the United States. In her later years, she traveled abroad extensively with her husband. They also spent many hours flying their private aircraft. They flew from coast to coast. Nadean would take control of the aircraft once at altitude and fly the airplane. She would hold altitude and direction using the aircraft instruments, which was not an easy task. She was adept at reading the special aircraft maps. She could talk to controllers without difficulty. Nadean's love of music remained with her throughout her life. She found her happiest moments when the family gathered around the piano and sang. After retiring to Oklahoma, Nadean was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, Delta Zeta Bridge Clubs and Les Bon Livres Book Club. She is survived by her husband, Bill Jones; two daughters, Bonnie Jean Burtcher and Margaret Angela Nievar and her husband Billy Nievar; sister-in-law, Barbara Pittman; two nieces, Ginny Shearin and Alison Hunt; three grandchildren, Richard William, Margaret Jean and Robert Lee Nievar; and one great-grandchild, William Douglas Nievar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dean A. McGee Eye Institute. Services will be held at Mercer-Adams Chapel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Viewing will take place on Friday with family attending from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com www.mercer-adams.com
