May 27, 1923 - May 12, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Raymond Reedy Venable passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord May 12, 2012, after a valiant fight with cancer. Raymond was born in Arkansas May 27, 1923, to Deward Clint and Eula Emma Venable. He was raised in Clarita, Oklahoma, and has made his home in southwest Oklahoma City since 1945. He was a member of Southwood Baptist Church and presently a member of Wilmont Place Baptist Church. Raymond proudly served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in November 1945. After settling in Oklahoma City, he became a long distance truck driver and a member of the Teamsters. He retired in 1985. Raymond's greatest source of pride was his family he shared with Lillian, his beloved wife of 70 years, reveling in their successes and sharing their disappointments. He was a friend to many and always available to those in need. Whether it be a hospital visit or just mowing their lawn, he enjoyed helping others. Raymond took great pleasure and pride in being a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Myrtle Lodge No. 145, where he was named Mr. Mason in 2000. Raymond is survived by his wife, Lillian Marie Venable; daughters, Charlotte Smith of Oklahoma City, and Jeanette Babka and husband Jim of Hot Springs, Arkansas; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Clinton Ray Venable; his parents, three brothers and a sister. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Integris Hospice House and the Wilmont Place Baptist Church for their loving and compassionate care of Raymond during his last days. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 at Wilmont Place Baptist Church, with burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
