Nov 15, 1933 - Nov 17, 2012 YUKON Roy Conrad Culp was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Tuttle, OK to Conrad Culp and Velma (McFall) Culp Cox. He passed away in his home in the afternoon of Nov. 17, 2012, surrounded by his family at the age of 79. Roy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yuvonne Culp; and three children: son, Rodney Culp; and daughters, Cheryl Spiva and Jennifer Osterberger; along with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma McFall Culp Cox; father, Conrad Culp; stepfather, F.R. Cox; infant brother, Charles Luther Culp; infant twins, (no name given to these children); and brothers, J.C. Culp, Earl Culp and Burl Culp. From a young age, Roy was always a high-energy person who loved dedicating his time to family, civic and charitable projects. While still in high school, he found his partner for life, Elva Yuvonne Yockey. After serving his country in Germany with the U.S. Army, Roy and Yuvonne were married. Roy worked with American Trailers in Oklahoma City for 22 years and was involved in a joint venture between ALCOA aluminum and American Trailers in developing the first aluminum semi, tractor-trailer in 1963. In 1973, Roy, with partners, James Welchel, Don Musgrove and son, Rodney Culp, founded Featherlite Trailers. Featherlite was the 1st and original aluminum gooseneck livestock-horse trailer developed for the North American trailer market. After selling the Featherlite Trailer Company in 1988, Roy semiretired, working with his son, Rodney, in building and developing a second aluminum trailer company, Exiss Trailers, in 1994. Roy touched many lives and made significant contributions to the North American Trailer market. He will be missed by those who knew him. Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21st at 2 p.m. at Yanda & Son Funeral Home, located at 1500 W. Vandament in Yukon, OK. Thereafter, Roy will be laid to rest at a graveside service in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
