August 8, 1927 - November 14, 2012 NORMAN Ruth May Turley Harbour Whittet Shoemaker, at 85 years, left her body temple to continue her journey back to her Creator. Her goal in this life was to give and receive the Love and Light of God in an attitude of Peace, Harmony and Oneness with all of God's Creations. A 1945 graduate of Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City, Ruth later enjoyed a warm association with the Alumni Association of that school. Known as "Mama Whittet" to many young people at Putnam City United Methodist Church, where she taught and learned from them for many years, Ruth sought to nurture these beautiful children of God to an aspiration of seeking and finding The Christ Within themselves and their brothers. With gratitude and thanksgiving to All fellow travelers on Earth, Ruth bids a fond farewell and leaves this message: "I wish to all of you the 'Peace that Passeth Understanding' as you continue learning from and teaching each other on your chosen pathways. Remember to smile and laugh a lot, hug each other a lot, always forgive, be optimistic and positive in all your endeavors, have faith in God and in yourself, be kind and compassionate to all your brothers for we are all equal Sparks of Light from The Mind of God. Love and Light eternally joins us all in the Oneness of our Creation as children of God and inheritors of His Kingdom. BE A LIGHT! Kiss the Joy, Spread the Love, Know the Peace." After the death of her first husband, Aquilla C. Harbour, in 1954, Ruth married Orval B. Whittet (who also preceded her in death in 1997). Ruth and Orval each brought three children with them to the marriage. And in 1956, their daughter was born, making theirs a "Yours, Mine and Ours" family. The seven children (and spouses) are: Sons - Harold Whittet, Ralph Whittet and wife Pam, Steve Harbour and wife Ramona; and Daughters - Gay Harbour and mate John Martin, Lyne Hays and husband Phil, Georgia Ann Hughes and husband Jack, Susan Goss and husband Mark. From the children's marriages, there are presently twenty-five grandchildren, plus spouses; and from those marriages, fifty-three great-grandchildren plus spouses; and from those marriages, one great-great grandchild - are all on earth. In September 1999, Ruth married Melvin H. Shoemaker. Mel's six children and their mates, six grandchildren, two "spouse-grandchildren" and seven great-grandchildren joined the rest of her family in her heart. She loved them all. One can easily see that most of Ruth's life was busy with being a wife, mother and grandmother. A Grand-Helper, her mother, Nellie Freeman Turley, was with her in the household for thirty-seven years before her death in 1992. And her Dad, Willard (W.H.) Turley, died in 1986. She was fortunate enough to be reared with two brothers: Clyde Turley, of Oklahoma City (deceased); and Wayne Turley, of Odessa, Texas. Their spouses and families were also very dear to Ruth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to in Ruth's name. Services: Visitation and goodbyes between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 17 and between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 at Vondel Smith Funeral Home, located at 13125 N.
