October 23, 1930 - October 9, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Shirley Anne Axworthy was born October 23, 1930 and passed away October 9, 2012 at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Anne Kooken, and her sister, Peggy Taylor. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert (Bob) T. Axworthy; sons, Alan and wife Mary of Essex Junction, Vermont, Todd of Houston, TX, & David of Oklahoma City, OK. She will be missed by her twin grandchildren, Miranda & Iain of Essex Junction, Vermont, along with numerous nieces, nephews & friends. In Shirley's professional career she was Vice President of Evelyn Seagrave Travel, heading up the Group Travel Department for 20 years. She organized and marketed tours, cruises, conventions and specialty trips for dozens of groups every year. She often served as the tour escort & manager and traveled to countries all over the world. In her semi-retirement years, Shirley was an independent travel specialist for All Aboard Travel. For both agencies she wrote travel newsletters which were so popular with clients that she produced custom travel newsletters for agencies throughout the US known as "The Traveletter Works". Shirley represented Seagrave at Executive Women International for several years. Before Shirley entered the workplace she was a dedicated mother and was active in the community and her church in each city where they lived. Shirley was a well-known moderator in the "Great Books" discussion programs in both Oklahoma City and Houston over many years. Shirley and Bob served as Sunday School teachers and youth sponsors at First Christian Church in OKC with 150 youth in the 50s and 60s, traveling on trips in the US & Mexico. She was a member of the Women's Chorus at St. Marks Methodist and worked with Common Cause. Shirley was a painter, silkscreen & graphic designer. She was tech-savvy, a prolific reader, an expert seamstress, a hostess of wonderful dinner parties, and a steadfast & faithful friend to many individuals of all ages. She will be missed by many!
