Nov 9, 1936 - July 16, 2012 DEL CITY Veda Mae (Miller) Girod, beloved Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on July 16, 2012, after an extended illness with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Veda was born on November 9, 1936, to Ethel (Bryant) Miller & Lee Paullus Miller in Kendrick, OK and moved to Del City when she was one month old. Veda was a 1955 graduate of Midwest City High School, where she lettered and played basketball for four years. After high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Draughn's Business College. On November 5, 1955, Veda married Bill, the love of her life and best friend, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Veda was Accountant and Office Manager for their family-owned business, I-40 Auto Parts, until the business was sold in May 1995. Veda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and traveled to all of the states. Veda was a member of Southside Nazarene Church, where she was the Sunday School teacher for teenagers for many years. She & Bill enjoyed taking the teens on trips to Colorado, Red River, NM and various other places. She was not only a teacher to them but was like a Mother to many of them who loved her dearly. She later became a member of Del City Nazarene Church. Veda was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel & Paullus Miller; her brothers, Bill Miller, Floyd Miller and J.R. Miller. Veda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Girod; two children, Gary Girod & wife Mary of Norman, and Paula Churchill & husband Dan of Del City; five grandchildren, Sarah White, Jason Girod, Corey Churchill, Ben Girod and Jon Girod; three great-grandchildren, Zoe Girod, Jackson White and Madelyn White; three brothers, Irven Miller, Willard Miller and Lonnie Miller, all of Del City; many nieces and nephews. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the many relatives and friends who have supported our family over the past years of Veda's health decline, and the nurses and aides at Hospice Quality Care on Sooner Road, Del City. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Del City Nazarene Church. The Girod family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service with interment following at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
