"Brownie"Jan. 22, 1916 - Nov. 4, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Vernon Edward Brown "Brownie" age 96, of Oklahoma City, passed away on November 4, 2012. Brownie was born in Okla. on Jan. 22, 1916, son of Harold Gordon Brown and Myrtle Sims Brown, the third of seven children. Brownie was a 41 year Federal Service Veteran, retiring as Chief, Accessories Branch, Directorate of Procurement and Production. Brownie began his federal service with the Federal Emergency Relief Administration in 1934 and worked with the WPA and the Treasury Dept. He spent a tour in the US Navy; honorable discharged in Nov. 15, 1945, Chief Storekeeper, US Navy Procurement. He began a second civil service career with the Office of Price Admin., the Federal Works Admin. and the FAA. During that time he achieved an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. In June 1952, he began his career with Tinker Air Force Base in the Directorate of Procurement and Production. During his career at Tinker he advanced from a junior clerk GS-2 to the grade of GS-14, Supervisory Contract Negotiator. Brownie was married for 60 years to Janne M. Brown, who passed away on Mar. 31, 2004. Brownie was an avid golfer. His home golf course was Lake Hefner GC in Oklahoma City. He is survived by his children: Bryan Brown, Victoria Galloway Woods and their spouses Lynne Wyatt Brown and James F. Woods; sisters: Opal Baumeister and Mary Lytle and spouse; four grandchildren, Shaun Parrish, Ryan and Paige Galloway and James F. Woods Jr. and six great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 North Kelly, Oklahoma City, OK 73131, (405-478-0556), on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 11:00 am.
