JacksonOct 5, 1914 - July 15, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Arthemise Poyner Jackson was born in Oklahoma City on October 5, 1914, as the only child of Howard W. Poyner and Goldie Lee Poyner. "Artie," as she was known to everyone except Medicare, attended high school in Oklahoma City and college at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. It was there that she met and married Frank Stafford Jackson of Sherman, Texas, on March 26, 1933. In 1936, Stafford and Artie moved to Oklahoma City where they managed and ultimately owned Artie's parents' business, Mid-Way Cleaners. They had two children, David Allen Jackson and Linda Diane Jackson, each of whom predeceased Artie. Stafford died on January 7, 1993. Artie enjoyed dancing with Stafford and playing bridge. She was good at both, but only enjoyed bridge when she was winning. Artie enjoyed life and approached it with a positive attitude. She started each visit with a cheerful "Howdy Do" greeting and ended each visit with a heartfelt "Thank you so much for coming." What Artie lacked in patience she made up in her subtle, albeit pointed, sense of humor. Deep appreciation is due to Barbara, Machelle, Kathryn, Renee and Nicole, Dr. Nathan Valentine and Autumn Bridge Hospice, all of whom who took good care of her in her time of need. In addition, thanks are due to the Fountains at Canterbury for providing an attentive and compassionate place to live for so long.
