Cecil Simer Obituary

Cecil Leroy Simer, 73, of Norman, was born August 18, 1936, to Newton and Darthulia Simer in Blanchard, OK. He went to be with his Savior on January 13, 2010 in Norman, OK. Leroy proudly served in the United States Air Force receiving numerous commendations and awards. He was stationed in Washington, DC and did tours in Vietnam and Guam before his retirement after 20 years at the rank of TSgt. After the Air Force, he worked for Public Supply and the Norman Public Schools. He was a "Ford" man who loved classic cars, old westerns, NASCAR and lived for the day 8-track tapes would make a comeback. His latest handiwork was restoring his '51 Ford Victoria which he loved to drive around town as well as his '67 Ford Mustang. He was a member of Northeast Baptist Church in Norman. Leroy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Lynne Simer of Norman; brothers, Donald and Dale Simer of Chickasha; sisters, Pat Davis of Blanchard, Lois Hall of Waurika, Eva Jane Ray of Chickasha, Helen Wartchow of OKC; children, Pam Helms of MWC, Natalie Simer of OKC, Doug Simer of Moore; stepchildren, Kathy Burkholder of Edwardsville, IL, Paul Craig of Brighton, CO, Susan Weaver of St. Augustine, FL, Linda Craig of Norman; grandchildren, John and Monica Helms, Brett, Bryson, and Eryn Simer, Rachel Wallace, Sarah Burkholder, Braden, Abby and Mary Kate Weaver; and numerous aunts, uncles nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Gloria Jean Simer, and children, Steven Lee and Dorthy Marie. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to: The Veterans Corner, P.O. Box 704, Washington, OK 73093. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, at Northeast Baptist Church in Norman.
