EARL JOHNSON Obituary
December 3, 1939 - January 27, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY Earl Paul Johnson was born December 3, 1939 in Oklahoma City, and completed this life on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the age of 73. The son of Claude Wesley and Bessie Cornelia (Harris) Johnson, he married the love of his life, Wanda Sue Grinstead, on June 4, 1963. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2010, after 46 happily married years. In 1958, he graduated from Capitol Hill High School, where he excelled in academics and track. He then entered the University of Oklahoma under the Navy ROTC Program. After graduating with a BS in Aerospace Engineering, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He served in the submarine force where he was stationed in Honolulu, HI, New London, CT, San Diego, CA, Charleston, SC, Fairfax and Virginia Beach, VA. After serving with Naval Intelligence, including the Naval Field Operational Intelligence Office in Washington, D.C., he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and numerous medals and letters of commendation. He and his family then moved home to Oklahoma City where he worked as an aerospace engineer at Tinker Air Force Base. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Johnson of Oklahoma City and Amy Hawken and her husband Richard of Dallas; his sister, Claudette Yuvonne Bryan of Lawton and her children; his cousin and lifelong best friend, Richard Johnson and his wife Ruth Ann; and numerous cousins.The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Additional visitation hours are from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Funeral service with military honors will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2nd, in the Vondel Smith Mortuary North Colonial Chapel, 13125 N. MacArthur. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to CurePSP for Multiple System Atrophy (psp.org).
