"Zeke"Oct. 8, 1946 - Dec. 16, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY George Scott Morris, "Zeke", 66, died unexpectedly on Dec. 16, 2012. Born in Oklahoma City, OK ("OKC") on Oct. 8, 1946 to George M. and Juanita D. (Eatmon) Morris, he grew up in N.W. OKC where he attended the Baptist Church and made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed being a big brother, collecting baseball cards, playing the snare drum, and fixing things-especially cars and trucks. A `65 Grad of N.W. Classen H.S., George joined the USAF in `66 as a Jet Eng. Mech. serving stateside and in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in `70. He rcv'd the National Defense Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, and Vietnam Service Medals. He dedicated time honoring Veterans through local VFW Post #1857, which his father built upon return from WWII. After moving to the S.F. Bay Area, George joined the USAF Res. in `75 and was stationed at Travis AFB for over a decade. He made Vacaville, CA his home, married Patricia (Diltz), and started a family. When his family separated, they moved to Medford, OR, where he worked as a surveyor for the USFS. In '87 he accepted a civil service position at the Alameda Naval Aviation Depot and moved back to CA. George traveled to OR to visit his son every weekend until he also moved back to CA. Due to the base closure, in `96 George took an early retirement as GS12/Logistics Management Specialist in Alameda. He went on to work with Raytheon as a Jet Eng. Mech. at Travis AFB before returning to OKC in '02 to care for his aging parents. He served as Building Manager, Quartermaster, and Post Commander of VFW Post#1857. He was Grand Commander/Seam Squirrel for the Military Order of the Cooties and their rep. for Volunteer Services at the OKC V.A. Medical Center. He held Bingo games monthly at the Norman Veterans Center and was involved with several national VFW meetings and yearly events. George was instrumental in the VFW Post#1857's Annual Pearl Harbor Day Observance in which he played the bugle. He was also a member of the OKC Elk's Lodge #417. Preceded in death by his father in '06, and survived by his son, Justin D. (Tiffani), and grandson, Knighton E. Morris, of Napa, CA, his mother, and sister, Mary (Jack Wilson), nephews, great nieces and nephews, and others of the OKC area. A graveside service will be held on Jan. 5, 2013 at 3pm at Memorial Park Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow at VFW Post#1857.
