May 14, 1924 - April 29, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY James L. Huston, 88, passed on April 29, 2013 at The Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born May 14, 1924 in Thomas, OK to Leafy Ann (Huffman) Huston and La-Verne F. Huston. Jim graduated Thomas High School in 1942, immediately drafted into the US Army, participating in the European Invasion of Europe, Utah Beach, Normandy France, (D-Day) June 6, 1944, serving honorably throughout the duration of the war. After the war Jim attended two years of Southwestern State Teacher's College, at Weatherford, OK. Then, he met the love of his life Lillian Mae Smith and they were married December 23, 1949 in Norman, OK. Also in the same year, he enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program, graduating as a Second Lieutenant. As a pilot in the United States Air Force, he served at numerous state-side assignments and European tours, including 18 months of resupply to Antarctica (Operation Deep Freeze), making ice strip landings as well as airdrops to scientists at the South Pole. He flew the world over, accumulating more than 12,000 flying hours and took part in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Jim had 26 years of military service, retiring in 1971, at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Moving back to Yukon, OK in 1972, assumed the position of transportation and purchasing director for the Yukon School System until 1986. Jim was active in the community with the American Legion as well as serving as President of the Rotary Club of Yukon. Jim and Lillian were dedicated members of Trinity Baptist Church of Yukon and were passionately involved in the Young at Hearts Program at the church. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lillian Mae (Smith) Huston of Omega, OK; parents, Leafy Ann Huston and LaVerne Francis Huston of Thomas, OK; brother, LaVerne Francis Huston Jr. of St. Louis, MO. Jim is survived by sons, Scott Huston of Oklahoma City, OK and Jeff Huston and wife Sherry of Yukon, OK; grandsons, Kyle and his wife Julie Huston and Corey and his wife Jessica Huston of Dallas, TX. Also, not to forget his favorite buddy, "Mikey." Services will be held 11:00AM, Friday, May 3, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church of Yukon with internment at 3:00PM Friday at Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, OK.
