Nov 13, 1949 - Nov 14, 2013 TOPEKA, KS James E. McCorkel, 64, passed peacefully Thursday evening, November 14, 2013. He was born November 13, 1949, in Oklahoma City, the son of Lyle and Irene Brockhaus McCorkel. He grew up in Oklahoma City, attending St. Francis Catholic Church and attended Rosemary Catholic Elementary School as well as Bishop McGuinness High School. He served in the army in the Vietnam War as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. Eventide Convalescent Center was his home for many years, and he grew close to the staff who gave him excellent care. Mr. McCorkel is survived by his brother, Vernon, in Oklahoma City; and a sister, Ruth, who lives in South Bend, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, Vera; his mother, Irene; and his father, Lyle. Services will be held Thursday, November 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Disabled American Veterans. Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka, Kansas, is assisting the family.
