Ray Owen Obituary

Bishop Ray Owen passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010. Bishop Owen was born April 21, 1932 in Gleason, TN. He served in the United States Army for 12 years. He was elected Bishop in 1992, serving the SW Texas and Rio Grande Conferences until retirement in 2000.Bishop Owen is survived by Lavelle Owen, his wife of 57 years; two sons, Rev. Darryl R. Owen and Rev. Dr. Dyton L. Owen, and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m., at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Visitation will be on Monday, May 17, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 N. Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., with family to receive visitors 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Epworth Villa Benevolent Fund, 14901 N. Penn, Oklahoma City, OK 73134; and The Dana Owen Scholarship, Oklahoma City University, 2501 N. Blackwelder, Oklahoma City, OK, 73106.

Ray was a dear friend for over 40 years - when I was a staff member on the General Board of Evangelism - I voted for him for bishop - He had a heart for evangelism and cared for people. He was a good preacher and pastor. He will be missed - but remembered.
