Aug 26, 1923 - April 4, 2014 MOORE Rollo Tully Davis, age 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, April 4, 2014. He was born August 26, 1923, in Dadeville, Missouri, the son of Jess and Flo Davis. After graduating from Dadeville High in 1941, Rollo attended Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) in Springfield, Missouri. Rollo was drafted into the Army in January 1943. With a background in meteorology, he entered the Army Air Corps Weather Service. Rollo served in the Pacific Theater, where he spent time on the islands of Guadalcanal and Tarawa. After the war, Rollo was recruited into the U.S. Weather Service. During his career, he was stationed in Dodge City, KS; Columbia, MO; Jackson, MO; and finally Oklahoma City. While stationed at Columbia, he met and married Lora Ruth Young. They married July 7, 1951. She would be Rollo's greatest accomplishment in life. They were married 62 years. Rollo retired from the Weather Service at the age of 55 years after 35 years of service. After retirement, he owned a very successful real estate business. Rollo's enjoyment in life, other than his family and friends, was gardening and Sooner football. Ruth and Rollo were active members of The First United Methodist Church of Moore and were involved in every facet of church life. They made deep and lasting connections at UMC of Moore, and their friends there became an extended family. Rollo is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Sienna Nursing Home in Midwest City; and four sons, Tully (Donna), of Tulsa; Jim (Ann), of Moore; Kelly (Karin), of Midwest City; and John (Melissa), of Kansas City, MO. Rollo has five grandchildren, Cheryl, Justin, Ryan, Chris, and Loralee; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Megan. Rollo is also survived by an older brother, Denzel, of Tallahassee, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Rosalee and Annalee. The family would like to thank the staffs of Sienna Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice and also Alex Wilson for their help with Dad at the end. Public viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 at John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 at First United Methodist Church of Moore, to be followed by a reception and then by burial at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Norman. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in the name of Rollo with the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank.
