November 17, 1920-February 18, 2013 YUKON Stanley A. Benda, 92, passed away Monday, the 18th of February, at his home in Yukon, OK. He was born on November 17, 1920 in Kingfisher, OK to Tony and Bessie (Kohout) Benda. He worked on his parents' farm until he was drafted during WWII serving in the US Army, 168th Battalion seeing action in the Pacific area. After being honorably discharged, he returned to farming in Kingfisher. Eventually he bought a farm in Yukon where he and Gladys lived for more than 64 years. Times being what they were, he supplemented farming by welding for more than 40 years. His favorite place of entertainment was dancing at Czech Hall where he met his wife Gladys Straka. They married on April 10, 1949 at Czech Hall. They loved to go to the dance every Saturday night at Czech Hall. After retirement, they would travel to other Polka Fests outside the state. Stanley was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family and always said "If you don't have family you don't have anything." He loved a joke good or bad, was passionate about horses, enjoyed and endured farming, was patriotic and honored his country, was a great fan of his children and grandchildren, and polka dancing with his wife was his joy. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, his parents, and his brothers, Tony, Henry, and Victor. He is survived by his children: Steve and his wife Carolyn of Yukon, OK, Donna and her husband Freddy Hale of Weatherford, OK, Billy and his wife Kathy, of Arlington, TX; and his grandchildren: Linsey, Candace, Bill, Jacqueline, April, Brian, Erica, and MaryBeth. He is also survived by his brother Jerry and wife Sylvia of Union City; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Stanley will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to Yukon Czech Hall, Yukon, OK. Celebration of life will be at McNeil's Funeral Home, Mustang, OK, on Saturday, February 23, at 10am. Viewing will be on Friday, February 22, from noon to 8pm. Burial will be at the Czechoslovakian National Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.mcneilsmustangfs.com www.mcneilsmustangfs.com
