Nov 28, 1928 - Nov 8, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Tom departed this life after a lengthy battle with cancer. Tom grew up in Tulsa, OK. Tom attended Southwestern University in Weatherford, OK, where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army for two years as a Laboratory Technician. Tom relocated to Oklahoma City to attend The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Upon graduation from Medical School, he completed an internship and residency in general surgery at St Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. He entered private practice in general surgery in Oklahoma City. He was on the staff of Integris, St. Anthony and Deaconess hospitals in Oklahoma City. He was a member of American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Medical Association and Oklahoma County Medical Association. He was also a member of All Souls' Episcopal Church. During his lifetime, Tom had a love of medicine and healing patients. He enjoyed the hours he spent at the hospital helping others. He was kind and always glad to mentor those in the medical profession. Time away from the hospital was spent reading, as Tom was a lifetime learner. He particularly enjoyed reading biographies and books about politics. One of Tom's favorite pastimes was enjoying a home-cooked meal with friends and family. Tom also was an avid OU Sooners fan and enjoyed watching his Sooners play. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing with his physician friends and his children.Tom is survived by his wife of forty years, Donna Kennedy Vogel, of Oklahoma City, OK; his children: Thomas Vogel Jr., Springfield, OR; Renee Vogel, of Keller, TX; Richard Vogel and his wife Mitzi, of Owasso, OK; and Nancy Vogel McGee and her husband Eric of Ponder, TX; his stepchildren: Donna McCampbell and her husband Robert, of Oklahoma City, OK; Phil C. Kidd III and his wife Dana Wohlford, of Del Mar, CA; and Margaret Defenderfer and her husband Kim, of Santa Monica, CA; his four grandchildren: Cannon and Sydney Vogel; Morgan and Dravon McGee; Ann and Ben McCampbell; Kate, Kennedy and Connor Kidd; and Peter Defenderfer.Memorial services are planned for Tuesday, November 13th at 11 a.m. at All Souls' Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City, OK.The family would like to thank the staff at Integris Southwest Hospital and Select Speciality Hospital for their care and kindness.
