Dec 28, 1929 - March 13, 2014 MIDWEST CITY Robert "Bob" Melvin Eldridge - Retired Telephone Man, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, died peacefully on March 13, 2014. He was 84 years old. Bob was born on December 28, 1929, in Oklahoma City to James W. and Pauline (Patrick) Eldridge. Bob also known as Big E, graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1948. He married Ila Faye Eldrldge on June 11, 1949, and served in the Army Reserve and Naval Reserve. Bob was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He worked for Southwestern Bell for 35 years and then retired from AT&T. He loved to have conversations about classic cars and also a passion for restoring them. He won many trophies and awards for his show cars. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. Bob enjoyed many years of football watching and attending Oklahoma University football games! He will be greatly missed by many! He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Ila Faye Eldridge; as well as two brothers and two sisters. Bob is survived by his four children and their spouses: Karen & Everett Villines, of Broken Bow, OK; Bob, Jr. & Cheryl Eldridge, of Norman, OK; Deanna & Hal Barnes, of Midwest City, OK; and James Eldridge, of Dallas, TX; also, four grandchildren: Carrie Mitchell, of Norman, OK; Leslie Eldridge, of Washington, DC; Karin & Matthias Knapp and Jeff & Jess Barnes, of Midwest City, OK; and his very special great-granddaughter, Kloei Faye Knapp, of Midwest City. Funeral Services for Bob will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home, Midwest City, OK. The family will be available to receive friends Sunday, March 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
