March 17, 1943 - March 12, 2014 EDMOND Zack Ray Williams, 70, a longtime resident of Edmond, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Visitation for Zack will be 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday March 17, 2014, at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with interment following 2 p.m. at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, Oklahoma. Zack was born March 17, 1943, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Ray Jean and Bettye Jo (McBride) Williams. He married LaVonn Ann (Morris) Williams on December 23, 1963, and they remained married until Zack's death. Zack and LaVonn were blessed with two children, Michelle Renae Collier and Zack Ray Williams II. After graduating from Comanche High School, he briefly attended the UCO. Zack's education was cut short when he entered the Navy and graduated from the Navy's Hospital Corps School, after which he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California, as a medic and ultimately, was sent to Vietnam. Zack enjoyed medically assisting the Vietnamese villagers both young and old. In 1967, he re-enrolled at UCO and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology with minors in chemistry and political science. In 1973, Zack accepted a position with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. In 1977, Zack joined the environmental staff at Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company, where he worked until his retirement in 2010. Throughout his professional career, Zack made many friends on whom he relied and cherished dearly. Zack was an accomplished golfer shooting in the 60's on numerous occasions. He golfed with the same group of misfits for over 50 years but wouldn't have missed a minute of it. Zack was preceded in death by his son, Zack II; his sister, Vicki; and his parents. Zack leaves family including his wife, LaVonn; daughter, Michelle Collier and her husband Dan; a grandson, Mitchell Hastings and his wife Andi; granddaughters, Micala Hastings and Meleah Emerson; and a great-granddaughter, Jordan Hastings. We love you and will miss you, husband, father, grandpa, and friend. Zack treasured his family and his many friends and was extremely proud of his daughter and his grandchildren, all of whom excelled at everything they did. Zack filled a glowing spot in this world, and his absence creates a large void that can only be filled with wonderful memories. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Zack to Good Shepherd Hospice, 4350 Will Rogers Pkwy, Ste 400, OKC, OK 73108. Arrangements for Zack and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at
