Obituary Condolences

July 29, 1924 - July 22, 2014 YUKON Virginia Lee Elkouri Goggin, of Yukon, OK, 89, passed away of Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Legend at Council Road Memory Care Residence. Virginia's life began on July 29, 1924, in Byron, OK. From there, her family moved to Thomas, OK and then to Wichita, KS, where she graduated from Wichita East HS and attended Wichita State University. She was employed by the U.S. Government as a secretary in Wichita and eventually, moved to OKC, where she retired from FAA in July 1979. Virginia was a member of Bethany First Assembly of God Church in Bethany, OK for 25 years. She loved being with her family. Her children and grandchildren remember her as "a classy lady with a fun-loving, feisty attitude"! Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Zakia Elkouri; brothers, George, Mitchell, and Fred; and sisters, Louise Dick and Mary Belle Jabara. Virginia is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert Goggin, of Yukon, OK; sons, John Cornell and his wife Cindy, of Hillsboro, NM; Tom Cornell and his wife Barbara, of Yukon, OK; and Mitchell Cornell and his wife Lisa, of Olathe, KS; daughters, Marla Goggin Houck and her husband Glenn, of OKC; and Marlene Goggin, of OKC; 14 grandchildren, Leslie Wald, Matthew Cornell, Shelley Gall, Carrie Carter, Alisha Cornell, Jennifer Wall, Nicholas Cornell, Riley Cornell, Glenn Houck Jr., Malinda Johnson, Bobby Houck, Jeff Houck, Joe Goggin, and Josh Goggin, and all their families; 22 great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Virginia requested that donations may be given to Bethany First Assembly of God Church, 4701 N Rockwell Ave, Bethany, OK. The family of Virginia Goggin wishes to thank the staff at Legend with a special recognition to Activities Director Barbara for her kindness and to Valir Hospice, especially Chaplin Miles and Nurses Sharece, Holly and Amanda. Visitation will be held at Smith and Turner Mortuary, 201 E. Main, Yukon, OK, on Thursday, July 24 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Bethany First Assembly of God Church, Bethany, OK. The Reverend John B. Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery at 7801 Northwest Expressway in OKC.
