Bennett Schlinke

Obituary Condolences

True to form, Bennett Schlinke shocked his family, friends, and colleagues once again when he prematurely took his leave of this world on December 29, 2007. Bennett was born August 21, 1943 to Gladys and Bruno Schlinke in Durant, Oklahoma. After completing high school at Northwest Classen, he attended Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma). There, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Port Shade. Following their marriage in 1966, Bennett completed law school at Oklahoma City University while serving in the National Guard. Bennett maintained a private law practice in the metro area for many years and was an icon at local courthouses, Around the Corner and Panera restaurants, and the Y, where all who knew him were treated to his unique, lightning- quick acerbic wit. Loudly cheering on the UCO basketball team, relaxing at the beach with his family, and mercilessly harassing everyone he liked were some of Bennett's favorite pastimes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife. He will be sorely missed by his children and grandchildren, Stephen & Brenda Schlinke, Allison, David, and Jonathan; Shawn & Tiffany Schlinke, Evan, and Tanner; Nathan Schlinke; Laynie & David Llach, Nadia, and Rowan; his sister, Helen & Ed Spinks; his wife's mother and siblings; as well as many, many nieces and nephews, and countless people who were anonymously helped by the kind deeds generated by the large heart inside his tough exterior. As there will be no funeral service, condolences may be sent to any of his children.
