Janice Carol West, born in Oklahoma City, OK, April 8, 1965, went home to be with the Lord September 30, 2009. She was the principal at Sky Ranch Elementary School. Because of her illness, she was unable to complete the school year, and she is truly missed by staff and students alike. During Janice's lifetime, she participated in various activities. As a young girl, she sang with her sisters and 1st cousin in the gospel group, The Gospel Spirtualettes. During her high school years, she was a majorette for Northeast High School. It was during her Junior year that Janice was elected State DECA Chaplain, where she served on the State Action Team. After graduating from Northeast High School, she attended the University of Central Oklahoma, where she received her undergraduate degree in Administration and began to work on her doctorate at Oklahoma University. Over the years, her love for the Lord, her family, profession and the Lord grew. From the ball fields Janice could be heard cheering for her boys. She was their #1 fan, and she wore those #1 fan button fans proudly. With camera or video camera in hand, she was determined to capture those precious moments for her family. That same passion was seen on the job. Her gift for teaching was electrifying. Janice received various awards for her contributions in and out of the classroom. Her desire to motivate students was exhibited on a daily basis. Janice and Great Expectations went hand-in-hand. She devoted herself to teaching teachers how to motivate students to want to learn. Janice would travel every summer around the state to share this message. From family to profession to the church, Janice enjoyed life and exhibited that in all she did. Janice was a prayer partner with TBN for 4 years. She also played violin for 14 years with her church orchestra at Crossroads Church. While a member of Crossroads Church, she was part of the praise team. Janice has led a faith-filled life, where she has inspired all those with whom she has come in contact. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Brian; 3 sons: Brian, Jr., 20; Stanley, 17; Jhames, 14; three sisters: La'Jeune James and Willie James of Los Angeles, CA; Andrea McKinney of North Carolina; mother, Madine James of Oklahoma City; and a host of friends, relatives and co-workers.
