Edward Lee Alford Sr. Obituary
His Life StoryEdward Lee Alford, Sr. was born May 28, 1930 to George Alford and Bernice Noble-Alford in Nobletown, Oklahoma, and passed away on November 22, 2010. Big Ace, he was lovingly called by his family and friends because of his love for the game of basketball. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, both parents, two sisters (Odessa and Frankie), brother (Wesley), and two grandchildren (Carlos and Ria). Edward attended the Nobletown public schools, Douglas High School in Wewoka, Langston University and Oklahoma Baptist University. He united in marriage to Lee Ann Smith-Alford on December 8, 1952. To this union eight children were born. Edward served in the United States Army and retired after 34 years of faithful and devoted Federal Service (Department of the Air Force). While employed at Tinker, Edward started A&R Roofing company to start a legacy for his sons and employment for other young men in the community. He received numerous awards throughout his career. He was most proud of the National Defense Service Medal award and the Army Commendation Medal for outstanding meritorious service. Edward reaffirmed his love for Christ and joined the Church of Christ. He remained an active and faithful member until his health began to fail. Edward was a quiet, giving person who believed that hard work and dedication was essential to a full and quality life. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his dedication to his children, and his patience and compassion to those less fortunate.
