April 5, 1944 - June 10, 2012 MIDWEST CITY Merrie Susan Foote, dear mother and grandma, died at her home on June 10, 2012. Susan was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on April 5, 1944, to Dixie Lou and Jack Ural Simmons. She grew up in Okmulgee and attended the University of Oklahoma. Susan married Bill Dewey in 1964 and she and Bill raised their two children together. Later, she was also married to Cliff Foote. Susan was a beloved teacher, librarian, school administrator, friend, and mentor to hundreds of children. She believed in the power of education for her students and family and earned her PhD. from the College of Education at the University of Oklahoma.Susan adored her grandchildren and her greatest joy in her last years was being with them. She loved spending time with family laughing, fishing, playing games and telling stories. Susan is survived by her mother, Dixie Powers Bennett; step-mother Helen Simmons; brothers, Steve Bennett and wife Terri, Jack Simmons and wife Lori, Jerry Simmons and wife Delyn, Jeff Simmons and wife Diane, Joel Simmons and wife Elizabeth; sisters, Cindy Bennett and Debbie Bennett; daughter, Lisa Dewey and husband Steve; son, Michael Dewey and wife Tina; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A private family service to celebrate Susan's life will be held this fall.
