RODNEY STEFFEN Obituary

July 26, 1952 - Aug 25, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Dr. Rodney P. Steffen (Pat), 60, of Oklahoma City, passed away on Saturday, August 25th. Pat passed away at the hospital, surrounded by his immediate family, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Pat was born July 26, 1952, in Sioux Falls, SD to Viola and Norbert Steffen. He went to grade school at St Joseph's Cathedral Catholic School in Sioux Falls, SD, and upon the death of his mother, went to live, along with his brothers, with relatives outside of Crofton, NE. He attended St Rose of Lima Catholic School. He graduated from Crofton, Nebraska, High School. Pat went to college at the University of Nebraska. He then graduated from University of Nebraska Dental School. Pat served four years as Captain in the Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK. He settled and remained in Oklahoma City his entire life. In 1983, Dr. Steffen founded MyDentist, with his first Dental Clinic located in north Oklahoma City. MyDentist continued to thrive and grow and now has many locations in several different states. Pat was married to Sandra Cae Rupert on October 26, 1993. Pat is survived by his wife, Sandra Cae; and her daughter, Kimberly; and granddaughter, Haley. Pat is also survived by brothers and sisters, Marvin, JoAnn, Norbert (Bud), Luella, Teresa, and Thomas (Tom). He has many nieces and nephews, several of whom worked with him at MyDentist, Dr. Jennifer Chambers, Jenae M. Pitts, Laurie Steffen Wehmueller, Darrick Hartman, and William (Billy) Steffen. Pat was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel; sister, Donna; and his parents, Norbert and Viola Steffen. Pat was a great enthusiast of the outdoors and loved fishing, hunting and ranching at his ranch outside of Oklahoma City. He loved sharing this with family and friends. Pat was a great Dentist, leader, mentor, friend and brother and will be missed deeply by all who knew him. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Vondel Smith Mortuary North, with the wake service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on August 30.

We will always remember his love for our crazy funky heels and humor! He will be missed and never forgotten! He might not have ever figured out how to say my name or spell it, but he definitely made me feel special!

I'm shocked to hear the passing of Pat and I wish my condolences to Pat's family and a very good friend of mine (Tom Steffen). I helped work on one of Pat's Dental offices in Ok. I have fished on Pat's ranch and even got to shoot skeet with Pat and his brothers. Pat welcomed me into his life and at the ranch and I will never forget him. I lost my brother last year, so I understand what Pat's family is going through. Tom, I'm sorry.
