October 1, 1928 - October 15, 2012 BETHANY Lavonne J. Gray went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 15, 2012. Lavonne was born to Lucille and Wade Jernigan in Nashville, Tennessee on October 1, 1928. She grew up in Nashville and was an active member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. She attended Trevecca Nazarene University and earned an AB degree in Language Arts in 1954. She married C. Paul Gray in 1953, and from this union two children, Don and Carole, were born. After Paul received his PhD from Vanderbilt University in 1959, the family moved to California where Paul taught at Pasadena Nazarene College. Lavonne was wife, mom, Sunday School teacher, and sponsor of Parsonettes. In 1970, the family moved to Bethany where Paul taught at Southern Nazarene University. In 1972, Lavonne earned a Master's degree and Reading Specialist certificate at SNU. She taught 19 years in Putnam City Schools. She retired in Bethany and was an active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene from 1970 until her death. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Lavonne is survived by son, Don (Denise) of Tulsa; daughter, Carole Liles (Jeff) of Kingfisher; four grandchildren, Jason Gray (Janiece), Minnesota, Jonathan Gray, Florida, Jennifer Liles and Brady Liles of Kingfisher; and three great grandchildren, Emma, Alyson and Avery Gray of Minnesota. Viewing will be Friday, 10am-9pm at Mercer-Adams. Family visitation will be Saturday, October 20, 9-11am at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service with services honoring Lavonne following at 1:00pm.
