MICHAEL HEGGEN Obituary
HeggenSep 16, 1960 - Dec 28, 2012 WARR ACRES Michael Heggen passed away on Friday, Dec. 28th, at 3 p.m., after "fighting a good fight" in his "bout with cancer," at a hospice home in Oklahoma City, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Heggen; stepfather, Billy R. Houck; uncle, Ted Heggen III; niece, Ruth Anne Royka; and grandparents on both sides. Michael is survived by his loving mother, Elizabeth Heggen-Houck; siblings, Jim, Susan, Judy and Robert Heggen, all of Oklahoma City. Surviving nieces and nephews include Charles Royka, Natalie Heggen, Rachel Osentowski, Melissa and Katelynn Daniels and Dale Heggen. Additional survivors include his aunt, Virginia Heggen; and six double cousins, Diane, Ted, Mary, Bob, Ginny and Katie, plus their extended families, most residing in Des Moines, Iowa. Michael excelled in gymnastics while in school, preforming the "Iron Cross." He was also "a champ" in the boxing sport. Upon completion of high school, he volunteered and enlisted in the Air Force to serve his country. While in the Air Force, he specialized in war plans and administration, moving up in rank due to hardworking service. Some of his hobbies included guitar, harmonica, songwriting and composing, fishing, camping, kite flying, rappelling, cave exploring, mountain climbing and especially University of Oklahoma football. Michael left behind a successful business in Las Vegas, NV and returned to rejoin his family in Oklahoma City in 2006. He was employed by Nomaco and had made good friends with many of his fellow employees. We thank God for giving our Michael the courage and the strength to climb the highest mountain of them all ... The Stairway to Heaven. A Funeral Mass, in celebration of Michael's life, will be held at a later date by St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5024 N. Grove, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Private graveside services are still pending, with Michael's final resting place to be in the family plot of Billy Ray Houck, Yukon, Oklahoma, Cemetery.
