Aug 21, 1942 - April 25, 2013 TULSA Displaying her trademark style, grace, and courage, Cathy Nichols, Tulsa, OK, passed away April 25 following a short illness. Born in Eagle Lake, TX to William Robert Wallace, Jr. and Elizabeth "Libby" Laughlin Kalmon, Cathy grew up in Oklahoma City, where she and her friends ran the roads of Nichols Hills and created great memories at the Split-T and more. After graduation from Casady School, Cathy attended University of Colorado, Boulder, until she married the love of her life, Mike, and they began their grand adventure that was 52 years strong! Cathy was a longtime resident of Oklahoma City and was active in the community. She was a member of the Junior League and Westminster Presbyterian Church. A voracious reader and wordsmith, Cathy was often the resource for writing an essay or information among family. She was a Jeopardy fan and seldom missed an answer in the form of a question. Cathy was a fabulous cook, played a competitive game of golf, always won at scrabble, a game of bridge or gin and never missed a Sunday New York Times crossword. Cathy had a great eye and was a natural at decorating and discovering antique finds and treasures. A fashion aficionado, Cathy was recognized for her unique, winning style when she was named one of Oklahoma City's 10 Best Dressed. In 1983, Cathy and family moved to Colorado Springs for several years before returning to the Sooner state and settling in Tulsa with their dogs, Rowdy, Lucky and Nic. A traveler extraordinaire, Cathy loved the beach and exploring new haunts. It was, indeed, a great ride - cheers to you, Cathy - a remarkable, beautiful woman. Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Bob Wallace; her mother, Libby Kalmon; and her stepfather, Dr. Edmond H. Kalmon, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Michael Nichols, Tulsa, OK; three daughters: Erin Nichols Biggers, Denver, CO; Blake Spivak, Austin, TX; and Paige Nichols, Tulsa, OK. Cathy is also survived by her sister, Martha Wallace Hanson, McKinney, TX; sister-in-law, Joan Payne, Oklahoma City, OK; a son-in- law, Greg Spivak, Austin TX; and four grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as CG (Cathryn the Great): Elizabeth Card, San Luis Obispo, CA; Austin Card, Denver, CO; Cooper and Ford Spivak, Austin, TX. A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Oklahoma City at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a reception at the home of Joan and Bill Payne, 1601 Westminster Place, Oklahoma, City, OK, at 1 p.m. following the private service. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to an animal charity of your choosing.
