StraehlaNov 15, 1957 - July 17, 2013 EDMOND Funeral service for Sheila Millicent Straehla, 55, of Edmond, OK, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Amber, OK. She was born on November 15, 1957, in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Bobby Jack and Ola T. (Branam) Orf. She died July 17, 2013, in Edmond, OK. Sheila grew up in Amber, OK, where she was the middle child of a very close-knit, loving family. Her mother, father, sisters and brothers were there to support, love and care for her for the duration of her life. She counted her sisters as amongst her closest friends and her sisters-in-law as her sisters. She attended and graduated from Amber-Pocasset in 1975, where she was Salutatorian of the class of 1975. She participated in basketball and was always very active in her church, as well as many Falls Creek trips during the summer. Sheila accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior during her youth and held onto and lived her Christian values throughout her lifetime. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education from USAO in 1978 and received her master's degree from UCO in Edmond in the area of Special Education. Sheila taught Special Education in the Fletcher, Lawton, and Topeka school systems for twenty years and was a dedicated and hardworking professional teacher. Nothing was more rewarding to Sheila than to have former Special Education students come up to her ten or fifteen years after she had taught them and for them to tell her that she had changed the course of their life. Sheila was united in marriage in 1982 to Arty Straehla. From that marriage came two sons, Wes and Ryan. She was a very loving and supportive mother, participating with them in all their activities and sports and always being a part of their lives. Sheila was very proud of her boys and was very proud of the man that Wes has become. Sheila developed many very close friendships throughout her life. Counted especially close were those lifetime friends that she made as a part of her husband's career and moves with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Many of those bonds lasted throughout her lifetime. Sheila will be very much missed by all who knew her. Sheila was preceded in death by one son, Ryan Christopher Straehla; and father, Bobby Jack Orf. Survivors include her husband, Arty Straehla; son, Wes Straehla; mother, Ola T. Orf; two sisters, Penny Foret and husband Gerald and Paula Orf; two brothers, Otto Orf and wife Sue and Sam Orf and wife JoAnn. Interment will be in the Amber Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home of Tuttle. Sheila was a breast cancer survivor.
