Fentem, Jr.May 5, 1922 - July 28, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY Tom passed away peacefully at home on Sunday evening with his family. Tom was born in Ada, OK and lived there till 1931, when the family moved to OKC. He graduated Classen High School where he lettered in baseball. Tom entered the University of Oklahoma in the fall of 1940 where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity until he enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1942. He served until 1945 in the 6th Marine Division in the Pacific. He received the Presidential Unit Citation and Commendation Citation for Okinawa action. The Division was sent to Tsing-Tao, North China in September 1945 to receive the surrender of Japanese Forces in the area. He was discharged November 1945 with the rank of Captain, and then promoted to Major. Tom re-entered OU in 1946 and married Mary Susan Callaway on May 15, 1946. He graduated from OU in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Tom was employed as an oil scout for Kerr-McGee from 1949-1951. He was an independent oil and gas producer from 1951 until his retirement in 1990. Tom served on the Board of Directors of the OKC Petroleum Club, and Board of Trustees and Board of Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church in OKC. He was also a member of the OKC Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf for over 50 years and has a club championship to his name. He is survived by Mary Susan, his wife of 67 years, and three children: Whit and Laura Fentem, Lezlie and Grant Morrow, and Janis Dozier. Also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses: Clint and Allie Bales, Mitch and Lauren Bales, Sean Dozier, Thomas Dozier, Whitney Fentem, and Caroline Fentem, and a sister, Evelyn Breeding of Edmond. Services were held for the family at Rose Hill Cemetery on August 1, 2013.
