June 29, 1930 ~ October 6, 2013 DEL CITY On October 6, 2013, the world lost a wonderful man. Jerry Wayne Benton, 83, passed away in Midwest City, OK surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on June 29, 1930 in Holdenville, OK to John Benton and Minnie Stubblefield. Jerry joined the U.S. Army at the age of 15, served his country for four years and later retired from Tinker Air Force Base as the Chief Communications Director after 39 years of federal service. He loved watching OU football, OU women's basketball, and tending to his flower garden. Jerry was a staunch conservative and thoroughly enjoyed talking about politics. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Benton; infant son, Bobby Benton; siblings, Merle Chafin, Margaret Shaw and Bobby Benton. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Balkenbush (Joe); granddaughter, Lauren Balkenbush; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was a wonderful, son, father and grandfather. Papa we are so blessed to have had you in our lives. The family would like to share their deep appreciation to the doctors and nurses who lovingly cared for Jerry. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Jerry's name to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation, Donate Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
