March 29, 1920 - February 10, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Eugene (Gene) C. Baren, age 93, passed away peacefully in a local nursing home on February 10, 2014. Gene was born in Chicago Illinois to Charles and Frances Gloss Velk. Following Charles passing, Frances remarried John Baren who carried forward the family name. Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years Jo Frances (Fox), son David and daughter-in-law Cindy, granddaughter Elizabeth, husband Dave Bevan and great grandson Cayden, grandson Andrew and wife Krystel, brother-in-law Kemp Fox and wife Cynthia, and nieces Charlotte, Lucinda and nephew Louis. At age 18, Gene enlisted in the Army Air Force and served our country in WWII on Guam. A longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, he also served with the India Shrine Temple for nearly 50 years and the Shrine Circus for 40 years. He had a passion for sales, meeting people and was a man who enjoyed several hobbies. At an early age, Gene expressed an interest in piano and demonstrated a profound passion for music. He also enjoyed coin collecting, woodworking, building clocks, playing bridge, golf and working crossword puzzles. Gene and his wife Jo were able to travel internationally with many friends through the years. Family and friends will gather for viewing at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper (Broadway Extension) from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday February 14th. Services will be at 2 PM Saturday, February 15th, with burial immediately following at Rose Hill Cemetery.
