Kush, Joseph V.  
OLEAN - Joseph V. Kush, formerly of 211 Center St., passed away Friday (May 22, 2015) at Cuba Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born Sept. 20, 1920, in Westons Mills, he was a son of the late John and Katherine Soroka Kush. On Sept. 28, 1946, in St. Mary of the Angels Church, he married the former Rose A. Fabic, who survives. Joe attended Portville High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the European theater at Ascension Island, South America, and Africa. He graduated from Jamestown Community College. He was a machinist at Dresser Industries, retiring Dec. 10, 1982, after 32 years of service, and was a member of the Dresser Retiree Association. Joe was a member of St. John's Church. Over the years, he attended all his grandchildren's sporting events, both home and away. In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Charles) Cappelletti of Olean; three grandsons, Anthony (Mara) Cappelletti of Garner, N.C., Christopher (Jennifer) Cappelletti of Olean and Ryan (Claire) Cappelletti of Grand Rapids, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Casey, Alyssa, Anna and Joseph; two sisters, Sophie Balcerzak of Olean and Rose (Charles) Witter of Portville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Stanley who died in World War II serving in the U.S. Navy, Frank, Walter and Phillip "Jake" Kush; and three sisters, Victoria Malick, Mary Lynch and Anna Allen. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to a memorial Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015, in St. John's Church. The Rev. Edward Sheedy will be celebrant. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home Inc. Olean.
