AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Mary Jane Sharp Page, 86, passed away July 19, 2015, at the Winter Haven Hospital. She was born June 8, 1929, in Olean. She moved to Florida in 1999 from Delevan and lived in Buffalo prior to that. She worked for the New York Telephone Co. until she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; brother, Jack Sharp; and two sisters, Peg Ingram and Jean Massaro. Mrs. Page is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ervin) Elaine Reeves of Silverton, Ore.; a son, James (Cathy) W. Smith of Buffalo; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Payne, Mary E.  
OLEAN - Mary E. Payne passed away Thursday (Aug. 20, 2015) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean. Born Feb. 3, 1932, in Sartwell, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Viola Wilcox McGavisk. She was married to Louis E. Payne, who predeceased her. Surviving are a son, Eric (Ursula) Payne of Eldred, Pa.; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Christopher; four sisters, Betty Fisk of Olean, Rita Austin of Wellsville, Sara McGavisk of Olean and Helen Rogers of Allegany; three brothers, Paul (Pat) McGavisk of Olean, Albert McGavisk of Olean and Rex McGavisk of Lubbock, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Ronnie, Bernard, Herbert and Robert. There was no visitation. A memorial service will be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home Inc., Olean.

Pierce II, George H. - Allegany  
ALLEGANY - George H. Pierce II, of Allegany, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening (Aug. 26, 2015) at Absolut Care of Salamanca after a long illness. Born on Oct. 12, 1932, in Olean, he was the son of Harlow and Veronica Ramsey Pierce. He was also the grandson of the late Sen. George (Caroline) Pierce. On Nov. 17, 1956, he married Anne Marie Braunschweiger of Wellsville, who survives. Mr. Pierce was a 1950 graduate of Allegany High School, where he was a star player for the basketball and baseball teams. He then graduated from St. Bonaventure University and was a pitcher for the Bona baseball team. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany. He enjoyed a long career as a math teacher at Ellicottville Central School. In his earlier years of teaching, he coached basketball and baseball. After retiring from teaching, he was active in the Literacy Volunteer Program. He was a sports enthusiast who loved Michigan football, the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Bonaventure basketball. He was an avid reader and a student of history and politics. He enjoyed a variety of music, movies and theater; traveling; and, most of all, spending time with his family. His wonderful sense of humor brightened many days. In addition to his wife, Anne Marie, he is survived by two sons, Harlow "Bill" Pierce of Allegany and Robert "Bob" Pierce of Olean; a daughter, Cara (Vince) Fratercangelo of Cordova, Tenn.; and his beloved granddaughter, Alexa Fratercangelo, also of Cordova. A private graveside service will be held at the Allegany Cemetery on Monday (Aug. 31, 2015). Memorials may be made to the Allegany Public Library, the Olean Public Library or the memorial fund of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
