Schnell, James L. - Olean  
OLEAN - James L. Schnell, of 700 Grandview Ave., passed away Thursday (Aug. 27, 2015) in Mercy Hospital of Buffalo following a short illness. Jim was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Olean, and was a son of the late Karl and Zela Sherwood Schnell. On April 4, 1959, in the Bethany Lutheran Church, on the corner of Sixth and West State streets, Olean, he married his loving wife of 51 years, Martha L. Frable, who predeceased him Dec. 3, 2010. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Olean High School. He continued his education and then graduated from the College of Business Administration at the Syracuse University in 1956. Jim served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 10, 1956, to Aug. 8, 1958. He began his accounting career with Ernst and Ernst Accounting, Buffalo, for a period of time, before joining Sheeser, Gallmeier, Schnell & Caldwell in Olean. Jim retired after about 20 years in the 1970s. Jim continued working out of his home on a self-employed basis. Jim was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. While in high school, college and the Army, he was known for his trumpet playing and he even played in the 283rd Army Band at Fort Benning, Ga. Surviving are his two children, Daniel R. Schnell and Linda M. Schnell, both of Olean; two grandchildren, Lily Y. and Mikkal L. Schnell; and his stepfather, Milburn A. Cunningham of Olean. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, on Monday (Aug. 31, 2015) from 10 a.m. to noon, at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Marie Meeks, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church, 1706 Lincoln Ave., Olean, NY 14760; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Seeley, Merry A. - Bolivar  
BOLIVAR - Merry A. Seeley, formerly of Wellsville Street, Bolivar, passed away Sunday (Aug. 30, 2015) at the Wellsville Manor. Born on April 7, 1938, in Olean, she was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Alice E. Waters Seeley. Merry was employed by Family Court and Surrogate Court in Belmont until retiring in September 1998. She enjoyed shopping and her grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Kathryn Smith of Bolivar, Roger (Julie) Hoshal of Richburg, Richard Hoshal of Belmont, Laura Gabler of Wellsville and Lynn Wagoner of Bolivar; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Diane) Seeley of Clarence; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and two grandsons, Robert Wagoner and Marcus Hoshal. At Merry's request, there will be no visitation or service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home Inc., Portville.

Sherwood, Barbara J. - Shinglehouse  
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Barbara J. "Barb" Sherwood, 67, of Shinglehouse, passed away at home with her loving family by her side Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2015) after a short illness. Born on April 23, 1948, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was a daughter of Stanley and Sarah Underhill Colburn. On Jan. 14, 1984, in Shinglehouse, she married Robert D. "Bob" Sherwood, who survives. Barb attended Depew (N.Y.) Central School. She was employed at the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean, N.Y., and later was employed as a housekeeper at Olean General Hospital, retiring in April 2010. She loved flower gardening and animals, but her greatest love was her family. Surviving besides her husband are three children, Bruce D. (Wendy) Whitman of Millport, Shelly A. (Patrick) Prince of Shinglehouse and Amy L. Chappell of Shinglehouse; nine grandchildren, Levi, Sarah, Christopher, Kennedy, Paige, Lindsey, Kaci, Sawyer and Chase; a great-granddaughter, Zoey; a brother, William Colburn of West Seneca, N.Y.; two sisters, Peggy Corbett of Depew, N.Y., and Roberta Colburn of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Barb was predeceased by a son, Paul Whitman, who died in 2008; and six brothers and sisters. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 6, 2015) in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Trula L. Hollywood, pastor of Athens Trinity Episcopal Church, Athens, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an SPCA of the donor's choice. Shinn, Col. Leo B. - Ulysses  
ULYSSES, Pa. - Col. Leo B. Shinn, USMC retired, 95, of Ulysses, died Tuesday (Sept.1, 2015) in his home. Born Oct. 20, 1919, in Beech Creek, Ky., he was the son of William Warner and Elizabeth "Bessie" Blaine Shinn. On Oct. 9, 1952, at Fort Benning, Ga., he married the former Muriel E. Tillotson, who predeceased him on April 8, 2013. In the 1930s, he served as a medic with the Civilian Conservation Corps building Fort Knox. A World War II and Korean War Veteran, Col. Shinn served honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1938 to 1967. In World War II, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Gold Star in lieu of a second award. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Kentucky and a benefactor member of the NRA. Surviving are a son, Leo (Lisa) Shinn Jr. of Jeannette, Pa.; a daughter, Lee Anne (Michael) Guryn of Ulysses; a daughter-in-law, Laura Shinn of Port Charlotte, Fla.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Osie Nell Van Santen of Salem, Ore.; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, William F. Shinn on March 31, 2013; and a sister, Winona Nevada Brumley. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 5, 2015) at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, with funeral services following at 3 p.m. The Rev. Jason K. Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by members of the United States Marine Corps and the Potter County Honor Guard. Skinner, Robert W. - Friendship  
FRIENDSHIP - Robert W. Skinner, 36, of 18 Depot St., Friendship, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (Aug. 27, 2015) at Jones Memorial Hospital. Born on Aug. 18, 1979, in Wellsville, he was a son of Robert L. Skinner and the late Donna Broshar Vogel. Robert worked on a farm until his illness took over. His last and final gift was donating his organs. He is survived by his father, Robert L. Skinner; his wife, Christal Skinner; a daughter, Charity Skinner; a son, Lanson Skinner; his stepchildren, Savion Schaffer and Aliyah Logue; two grandchildren; two sisters, Terrie Skinner Yarbrough and Hollie Skinner; a stepfather, Timothy Vogel; three stepbrothers, Jessie Vogel, Shane Vogel and Joshua Vogel; four nieces, Joeleah Brewster, Alyszia Little, Regan Vogel and Sophia Vogel; seven nephews, Christian Brewster, Tanner Brewster, Donald Yarbrough Jr., Tyler Vogel, Jacob Vogel, Trenton Vogel and Colton Vogel; four uncles and five aunts. Friends will be received Sunday (Aug. 30, 2015) at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service Inc. from 1 to 3 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev.
