OLEAN - Arthur T. Scharf, formerly of Tonawanda, died Thursday (June 12, 2014) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born March 17, 1929, in Buffalo, he was the son of Theodore and Marie Haeffler Scharf. In 2001, he married Kay Messana, who survives.
Mr. Scharf enlisted in the U.S. Army
, which he served from 1952 to 1954. He had been employed at the Marine Midland Bank in Buffalo as the branch manager, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Seneca and served as treasurer. He was a 50-plus year member of the West Seneca Lions Club, and also served on the board of trustees at the Greenfields Adult Continuing Care Facility in Lancaster.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Sue) Scharf of West Seneca and David (Ada) Scharf of Olean; four grandchildren, Jason (Courtney) Scharf, Joshua Scharf, Elizabeth (Andy) Pappas and Nathan Scharf; and two great-grandsons, Jaiden and Luke Scharf.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday (July 6, 2014) at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton St., West Seneca, with a visitation to follow the service. Burial will take place at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
