WEST VALLEY - Hazel, M. Mahnk, formerly of Route 240, died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2013) at Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital in Springville following a short illness.
Born July 19, 1922, in Machias, she was a daughter of George J. and Rose Couter Wurst. On June 21, 1939, in Springville, she married Harold Mahnk, who died March 18, 1979.
Mrs. Mahnk worked in a woolen Mill in Salamanca and Fancher Furniture, also of Salamanca. She retired from Motorola Inc. of Arcade after 19 years of service. Hazel was most proud of her retirement home, which she and her husband built together. She was known to be an excellent cook and seamstress.
Surviving are two grandsons, Barry (Marie) Mahnk of West Valley and Darryl (Cindy) Mahnk of Franklinville; four great-grandchildren, Jack (Roxann) Sutherland, Wendy Mahnk, Alex Mahnk and Jacob Mahnk; a great-great-grandson, Aidan Sutherland; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Mahnk of Salamanca.
She was predeceased by her two sons, Norman Mahnk in 2006 and Ronald Mahnk in 1994; and a long time companion, Paul Linsler, in 2002.
Friends may gather with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville, where her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 14, 2013) with the Rev. Tim Griffith of the Salamanca Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in West Valley.
