WEST CLARKSVILLE - James A. ""Jim"" Senefelder, 72, of P.O. Box 149 West Clarksville, passed away Sunday (Dec. 16, 2012) at home after a short battle with cancer.
Born on April 24, 1940, in Buffalo, he was a son of Henry and Jeanne Goetz Senefelder. On June 28, 1980, he married his loving wife, Linda M. Harter, who survives.
Mr. Senefelder was a graduate of Bennett High School, class of 1958. He then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving from August 1959 until August 1963. While enlisted, he attended meteorology school, was part of the International Ice Patrol and attended the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. He received the Good Conduct Medal for his service.
Jim then attended Amherst College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Russian history in 1967. He then went to work for Mobil Chemical Company, holding various positions and retiring in Sept. 1995 as a manager/engineering after 35 years of service.
He was a member and board member of the Olean Kennel Club, the Great Pyrenees Club of America and owner of the Pines Wildlife Sanctuary. He was a previous member and past commissioner of both the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company and Clarksville Ambulance Service. He also volunteered at Olean General Hospital, playing Santa. He, along with his wife and therapy dog, Gabriel, were involved with dog therapy programs at Olean General Hospital, Cuba Memorial Hospital, the Cuba Library and the Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center in Olean. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and all the outdoors had to offer.
He is survived by his wife, Linda H. Senefelder of Clarksville; a son, Allan Senefelder of East Rochester; a daughter, Carrie Senefelder of Rochester; a granddaughter, Cassidy Senefelder of East Rochester; a sister, Jeanne Andreana of Tonawanda; numerous nieces and nephews; and their canine service and therapy dog, Gabriel, as well as their other dogs, Emma and Juliet
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Senefelder, Jr. and Matthew Senefelder.
Friends will be received at the West Clarksville Baptist Church, 9003 County Road 5 (Daggett Hollow Rd.) on Thursday (Dec. 20, 2012) from 10 a.m. until noon, at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Leslie E. Chambers will officiate.
