CANEADEA - James Richard "Jim" Hunt, 68, of 652 87th Ave. North, St. Petersburg, Fla., and of Russell Hill Road in Caneadea, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 9, 2013), at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 15, 1945, in Cuba, he was the son of Raymond Clair and Myrtle Athelene Gould Hunt. On Dec. 16, 1967, in Caneadea, he married the former Ethel Hull, who predeceased him Oct. 20, 1990.
Jim had grown up on Hunt Road in Black Creek. He attended Black Creek School and then Cuba Central School, where he graduated as a member of the class of 1964. For the next 15 years, he was a stock handler at Motorola Corp. in Arcade. Jim then was employed at Houghton College where he was a custodian and eventually became a security guard for the college, retiring in 1999. He was a resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., since 2006, and assisted in real estate in the Keller Williams Gulf Coast Reality Co. with his closest friend, Steven Owen
Jim enjoyed gardening, locksmithing, repairing appliances, being an all-around handyman, repairing and fixing houses, and assisting the elderly in the area. Most of all, he loved his family and being with them. He was a member of the Fountainview Community Church of Tampa, Fla., and the Neighborhood Watch Organization of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Surviving are three sons, David C. (Sherri Hall) Hunt of Caneadea, Richard A. (Jennifer M.) Hunt of Angelica and Stanley J. (Tonya Van Curen) Hunt of Wellsville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, John Robert Hunt of Angelica; two sisters, Martha Hunt of Allegany and Patricia (Bill) Rose of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2013). The Rev. Robert Mackmer, pastor of the Belfast Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Oramel Cemetery in the town of Caneadea.
