OLEAN – Josephine "Josie" Woodard, a resident of the Pines in Olean, passed away Thursday (April 24, 2014), in Olean General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born May 17, 1918, in Manchester, N.H., she was a daughter of the late Louis and Agnes Brzysc Walega. Josie was married to Lawrence D. Woodard, who passed away July 9, 1979.
Before her marriage, she worked at the Olean Tile Co. for several years. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening, bingo and her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, James Woodard of Georgia, and Kenny Hardy of Bradford, Pa.; four daughters, Linda Learn of West Clarksville, Joan Woodard of West Clarksville, Carrie Farraro of Olean, and Shirley Anastasia of Olean; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Matthew Walega; two grandchildren, Tammy Jo Learn and Charles Learn; and two sisters, Julia Shoup and Katherine Masich; and three brothers, Walter, John and Edward Walega.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. only at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 East State St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday (April 28, 2014) at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church. Father Edward Sheedy, Pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Veteran's Circle, Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
