BOLIVAR - Lewis A. "Arnie" Pettit, 85, of 6984 Beers Hollow Road, passed away Wednesday (April 9, 2014) in the Highland Park Nursing Facility, Wellsville, following a lengthy illness.
Born on Feb. 18, 1929, in Olean, he was a son of Lewis and Hazel Jordan Pettit. He married the former Joan McKay on Feb. 11, 1957, in South Dayton. Mrs. Pettit survives.
Arnie was a self-employed mason in the Bolivar area for many years.
He was a member of the Faith Bible Church, Little Genesee.
Surviving in addition to his wife are nine children, Ron (DeLisa) Pettit of Smithville, Texas, Kim (Pat) Torrey of Bolivar, Andrea Pettit of Bolivar, Barbara (Curtis) Burdick of Little Genesee, Mike (Patsy) Pettit of Little Genesee, Linda (John) Innamorato of Bolivar, Shawn (Rebecca) Pettit of Bolivar, Frank (April) Pettit of Little Genesee and Pamela (Donald) Colerick of Little Genesee; 40 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Judy Feller, in 1990, and Arthur Pettit, in 2005; two brothers, Donald Pettit and Duncan Pettit; and an infant sister.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (April 14, 2014) in the Faith Bible Church, Little Genesee. The Rev. Clint Pearsall will officiate. Burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., Bolivar.
